Better Together: People Over Party ("we", "our", "us") operates the PoP mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our App.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide

Newsletter Signup:

• Name (optional)
• Email address

This information is stored locally on your device and is used solely to send you our newsletter updates about civic engagement opportunities.

Discord Connection (optional):

• If you connect Discord inside the App, the sign-in code Discord issues is sent to a service run for us by the App's developer, Traditionally Different Technology, at pop.traddiff.workers.dev, which completes the sign-in with Discord.
• Your Discord user ID and username are stored in your device's keychain so you stay connected.
• Community events, threads, and announcements you read, and issues you post, pass through that service to our Discord server.

Event Check-Ins:

• Volunteer name, event name, and event code entered at check-in are stored locally on the device and leave it only if you export them.

Information Collected Automatically

Learning Progress:

• Flashcard progress (which cards you've viewed and marked as learned)
• Document bookmarks

This data is stored locally on your device to personalize your learning experience and is never transmitted to our servers.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Send newsletters to subscribers who opt in
• Track your civics learning progress locally on your device
• Improve your experience with bookmarks and saved progress
• Keep you connected to our Discord community if you choose to link it

Information Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, trade, or share your personal information with third parties, except:

• When required by law or legal process
• With your explicit consent
• To protect our rights or the safety of others

We have no advertising and no analytics in our app.

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored locally on your device using platform-native storage (Core Data on iOS, Room database on Android). The only server involved is the Discord connection service described above, run for us by the App's developer on Cloudflare; it handles the Discord sign-in handshake and the requests the App makes to Discord. Ask us and we will tell you what it holds about you and delete it.

On iOS, if you have iCloud enabled, some app data may sync across your Apple devices through Apple's standard iCloud functionality. This syncing is controlled by Apple's privacy policies.

Your Rights and Choices

You have the right to:

• Delete your newsletter signup at any time within the app
• Clear your learning progress through the app settings
• Delete the app to remove all local data from your device
• Opt out of newsletters by unsubscribing via email links
• Disconnect Discord in the App to remove the stored session from your device

Children's Privacy

Our App is rated 4+ on the App Store and is designed to be educational for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent. The civics education content is appropriate for learners of all ages.

Third-Party Links

Our App contains links to external websites, including:

• Ballotpedia.org (ballot information)
• SD Legislature website (bills and statutes)
• Pennington County government websites
• South Dakota Secretary of State
• Discord (discord.com), if you join or connect our community

These external sites have their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review their policies before providing personal information.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted within the App with an updated "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

California Privacy Rights

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). Since we do not sell personal information and collect minimal data, most of it stored only on your device, most CCPA provisions do not apply. However, you may contact us to request information about the data we may have collected about you.

South Dakota Residents

As a South Dakota-based organization, we comply with all applicable state privacy laws. South Dakota residents may contact us directly with any privacy concerns.
